When to use the GPT-Image-2 temporary workspace vs the full VisualStoryAI app

Not every image-generation task needs the same environment.
Some work is exploratory. Some work is operational. If you put both into the same tool without clear boundaries, the workflow gets messy fast.
That is why VisualStoryAI now has two different surfaces for image creation.
Use the temporary workspace when speed matters most
The GPT-Image-2 temporary workspace is for quick testing.
It works best when you want to:
- try a prompt idea quickly
- compare prompt variations
- test a specific OpenAI-compatible endpoint
- run short experiments with your own API key
It is intentionally lightweight. Your configuration and recent runs stay in the browser, which keeps the barrier to entry low.
Use the full app when the work needs continuity
Fast experiments are useful, but production work needs more than a prompt box.
Move into the full VisualStoryAI app when you need:
- a workspace you return to over time
- cleaner project organization
- saved assets and generation history
- a more stable production flow for ongoing image work
In other words, the temporary workspace helps you test. The full app helps you build.
The split is a feature, not a limitation
People often assume "one tool for everything" is simpler. In practice, that usually means every screen becomes overloaded.
Separating temporary generation from production work makes each product surface easier to understand:
- the public side stays open and easy to try
- the production side stays focused on committed work
That makes onboarding smoother for new users and keeps the long-term workflow cleaner for serious ones.
A simple way to decide
Use this rule:
- if the goal is to test, use the temporary workspace
- if the goal is to keep, organize, or scale the work, use the full app
The distinction is simple, but it prevents a lot of unnecessary friction.
